Illness.

Being sick. We have all been there. Some, more then others. Being a massage therapist you must take care of yourself. Taking vitamins and getting enough rest is the best to stay afloat. Staying away from anyone who is ill. Being extra tidy and sanitary etc.

Clients who receive a massage when they are ill, pose a threat to the therapist. If you feel a cold or sickness coming on, please steer clear from receiving a massage. If in the beginning stages it might seem like a good idea because the body is achy. You may think, “A little relief from a massage may help” the answer to that is NO. No it will not. Towards the end of a illness the same thinking may be applied. Again this is not the best idea. Here are some reasons for why it is not a good idea.

Having something as simple as a common head cold can burst into a full blown illness. Making you feel worse then you did times two. When getting a massage it may seem like a great idea, when you are setting your body up for disaster. The circulation of the blood from the massage, flows more effectively through the body at a more rapid pace. When people tell me they have a little cold or is getting over a cold, (which is usually after I have arrived) I have to tell them this massage will do one of three things.

One) If at the end, it will flush it out of their system.
Two) Make the sickness full blown
Three) COME BACK with a vengeance.

The most important reason for not receiving a massage. You will get your therapist sick. The need to be mindful of others when a feeling of getting sick, in the middle of being sick and the end of being sick. Germs are spread. Coughing. Sneezing. Sore throat, etc. all could be spread. Not to mention not very relaxing if a coughing fit erupts. If we are sick we can’t work. No work means our income stops coming in. Most of us are self employed which means few sick days. None if possible.
Best remedy? Stay home. Your body needs to rest. Recharge and heal. The need of today is to go go go. This runs the body down. The immune system can not fight anymore. Result, getting sick.
So please if you feel sick do not schedule a appointment or just reschedule for a future date when the coast is clear.

A massage is to be enjoyed to the fullest without interruption. A healthy body is a happy body! 😊

Valentines day.

It’s here again..another holiday! Valentines day!

Still have no ideas on a gift for you loved one? Try a in home massage. For her, for him, or simply for both. A couples massage is a great way to share the day together. Begin the night in the right way. Relaxed, calm, and happy. This great gift does not have to be on the day of, it can be the weekend following that Thursday. A simple, quaint night. Forgetting the week, or day with a professional massage.

Call today to book!

Letting go.

Letting go. A action that is hard for many people. Many people that cross my path, have trouble just being in the moment. Thoughts swirling around, creating a mountain of stress. Thoughts of here or there, what to do next, yesterday’s problems, tomorrows problems. All common, for the average person. Some people however, learn to drop it all at the door. While some drag it in the room, and slam it upon the treatment table.

A busy mind can break your massage. It will rob you of what your there to do. Relax. If you choose, you have sixty to ninety minutes to let go of all that. Only if you choose though. I see the busy mind coming a mile away. I feel it. I hear it in your voice. I see the body language, shouting at me. So I take my time. I try to channel my calm to you. When I see you resisting me, I will ask you to take some deep breathes. Silly right? Breathe? You are breathing all day everyday. What will be the difference? This breathing is controlling. Controlling what? Controlling your mind. Your ability to control these deep breaths, forces you to focus on only that. With every inhale to exhale, you are unknowingly expelling all the clutter in your mind. Your focus becomes letting go.

A tactic that is well utilized. I want you to get every single morsel of the massage. In that brief window of time, it should be the time your taking for yourself. Just you. Nobody else is allowed in the session. It is my job to guide you. Guide you to that state of relaxation, where nothing and nobody matters. If you do not let me guide you, my work will seem un useful. A waste of yours and my time. So when you are asked to take deep breathes, please take advantage. Listen to the therapist. A true intuitive therapist will do everything possible to help quiet your mind. Be mindful, you have to be willing to cooperate and listen. Don’t let anything distract you from bettering your health and expelling toxic remains of a cluttered mind.

Massage therapy is about healing. If made apart of your life on a regular basis, it can promote nothing short of positive results. So for the crowded minds, next time you are being given a massage, enjoy it. Please do not fight to stay inside your own head. Deep breath, and let go.

Couples massage

So I have been tossing around a idea to teach a couples massage class. A business man I was working with about nine months ago was giving me different ideas to expand my business. One of them was teaching. Which really hit home.

I have always wanted to teach couples on how to give a 15 min massage. Why 15 mins? Well, it’s long enough to get your result, and short enough to not be tired out. It also gives the couples a chance to interact with Each other.reconnecting in a very busy world, and the power of touch is underrated and very under valued. Communicating through touch is a wonderful way to have that “one on one” time we all seem to not get. How many times have we asked for a back rub that had so much promise- started so strong then slowed down and dwindle to a super slow scratch?? we are all so guilty of that, Even me. It then turns into ” I’m tired, or my hands hurt”.

Having this time to learn about the correct touch will enhance a couples love life. It’s fun and as non serious as it comes. Leave the real muscle and bodywork to the licensed professionals. This is a couples time. Love therapy if you will. Slowing down the pace and focusing on the power of your touch. Letting your hands reflect how much you love them. That always shines through.

I will be organizing a class very soon if you are interested please let me know via email. Www.bontempolmt@yahoo.com

The class will be an hour. If you would like private sessions with just you and your loved one it can be arranged.
If you want to surprise your loved one with your new found massage techniques bring a buddy you can work on in class.
I will post a new page with all the info needed.

Birthday!!!

Well it is now January 2013. I am officially 8 years old!!! Confused? Lol well I have just had my 8th birthday as a massage therapist. It’s amazing how time flies. It has been quite the ride. Lots of ups and downs, good and bad. All worth it. Even now as I sit here and reflect on my choice of what I call love for a career, would I change it? Would I do anything different? Yes and no. Yes I would do things different. I would have not let my fear for the unknown future, and my fears of doubt in myself to go all the way hold me back. Me not believing in myself and my work I would do different. I would shut out all the people who didn’t have the faith and support in me to tell me I was actually good at what I do. Looking for that acceptance from peers and those I needed reassurance from. When I should have acknowledged my talent and not let those who said different hold me back. Change no. I am glad for all the nay Sayers for making me strong to be better. Things happen for a reason they say. I’m glad 8 years have passed and I am still in love with my work. At times it’s trying but I can’t seeing myself doing anything different. Massage has without a doubt captured my heart.
So to my future and 8 more years! Happy birthday!

You may think I am a doctor

You may think I am a doctor, but I am not. I am a massage therapist. I get a lot of questions concerning the body, but those questions also transfer to problems one may be having I can not explain. Even though what we do is healing to the body, it in fact does not give us the right to give a diagnosis on anyone. We are trained in the body mostly the muscles. It seems like we would know why your having pain in a certain area…we know most of the time what “may” be the cause but we can not define the problem as fact. As a LMT I urge you to go to the doctor with any real areas of problems going on in your bodies.. It not only helps us to navigate properly but you will have the peace of mind on what is officially the problem. All work done by a trained medical professional. We are the calm in the storm. Our job is to come in and see what we can do to help the body get back on track. I will do whatever it takes with my capable hands to help knead through the ruff patches,to give you back the benefits of a reduced to pain free life.

Who I am.

There are times when I feel like I’m in a free fall. Falling from stress, falling from struggle falling from my dream. At times I feel defeated other times I feel like I’m about to break through. All the feelings in the world can hold me in stillness, until I am sitting behind a person. The moment I take that first inhale and lay my hands down,my worries go away and my dream rises again to the top. I hear the music I shut my eyes and I breathe. I let my hands find their own way. Searching out the areas of stress. At that moment it’s not about how many modalities one can acquire. It’s about connecting with your client. Being in there personal space. Allowed to be there to help take away the pain they are feeling, trying hard not to take it upon yourself. The fluidity from the movement of your hands, the inhale exhale as the music flows. Letting their muscles guide the way. Showing you where you need to be. Neck, shoulders, arms, hands. Music making them feel like they are in the isle on the sand. Relaxed, safe, and melting. Drifting off into slumber letting the stress fade away. A feeling of calm and happiness drapes over me. Seeing the effect of these two hands. But I smile because its not just my hands, my craft is accompanied by my heart mind and soul. Something I was destined to do. Make people happy with the slightest of touch. Its taking Time to be there in the moment. The best moments. That final deep breath when you see they finally let go. Stopped being stuck in their own brain, giving in to the experience. The final minutes of the end. When you lay a hand on their back and ask how they feel. It’s the nod of the head or a whisper of gratitude. I did that I made a life better even if for a brief moment. I know when I show up a look of anticipation and happiness pours out.
That is why I continue to love and do what I do. No matter what the struggle, or what the stress is, I am reminded everyday why I keep pushing forward. For that moment. That sparkle, and that light that burns just a little bit brighter. I know my work is worth something. Massage is who I am. Who and what I will always be…..a healer.

Reflection

Today I am researching my craft. Looking up history of others and their success. I feel like my mind is about to explode from all the ideas I have in my mind. Ideas I have had since I was In massage therapy school. I am at a marker of 7 years as a massage therapist. 7 years ago I couldn’t wait till I was here with this much time under my belt. Now that I am here I want to take it to the next level. I want to feel like my love, my passion,my constant need to not give up on my work is going to put me where I need to be. The days of inconsistency put behind me and I can rest easy knowing that I’m doing great. I’m not a quitter. I am a competitive fighter for this need in my life. I was made to do this. I am great at massage. I know that may sound cocky but truth be told I love what I do and I know it comes out in my hands. I connect with the body. I revel in the moment of my client being completely consumed by my work. That is what keeps me here. Feeling the power of exchange of energy. It’s amazing and hypnotic. It takes you to a place where you can get lost. How awesome is that? I can alter a mood, invoke emotion, put to rest the busy mind release the soul.
My heart so full at times I feel like it will burst. Today I’m taking it in and reflecting on the past present and looking forward to my future.

The kind of day

Today is the kind of day you would like to enjoy. The kind of day that when you step outside your sole mission is to make as many people feel just a little better. Today is the kind of day to stand back and marvel at the the mystery oyo you’re hands. The power the posess. The simple fact that you have a gift. The gigt of touch. Not all have this. So it’s the kind of day when you cherish the treasure bestowed upon you to do good. Even when you are low and don’t have many clients that week, today reminds you why you fight to be your best. Today….is that kind of day.
